Conference Teaches Women to Avoid, Defend & Survive Violence
6th Annual Women’s Personal Safety Conference & Expo Hits Fort Worth

Fort worth, Texas –
Elsie Allen, founder of non-profit organization Sisters S.O.S., today announced an exciting and informative line-up of local experts and newsmakers for the 6th Annual Women’s Personal Safety Conference & Expo to be held September 12 at the Botanical Gardens Lecture Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.  Online registration for the one-day event is free at www.SistersSOSEvents.com.

The Women’s Personal Safety Conference & Expo will feature more than 10 speakers, including Family Law Attorney Lauren Gaydos-Duffer, advocacy leader Ketra Davenport, Coach Anthony Criss, self defense experts Tommy and Stacy Stallard and motivational speaker Shawn Ewing.  The one-of-a-kind conference will also feature seminars on human trafficking and crime victims’ support as well as musical performances.

“Women need to know that safety starts in the mind. It’s not always about being physical, you have to be aware,” said Allen.  Allen’s organization, Sisters S.O.S. organizes and hosts the conference each year.  Their aim is to provide women with essential information, tools and training to live a safe and secure life.

This year’s goal is for every woman attending the conference to learn how to:
1.  Avoid danger if possible
2.
Defend themselves if necessary
3. Survive unsafe situations

The Center for Disease Control recently released comprehensive survey results regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, abuse against women and other crimes of opportunity
:
·

29.2% of Black women and 20.5%
of Hispanic women have suffered partner violence.
·
In a statewide survey of Texans released in February 2003, 74% say they, a relative, a friend or a co- worker have experienced  some form of physical, sexual or verbal domestic violence.
·
31% of Texans surveyed reported they had been severely abused at some point.
